Mark and I are hard at work preparing our new brand and website this winter. In the meantime, the blog may be a little slow with work related images, but here's some eye candy we took yesterday to hold you over.

Nantucket is special every day, but during a quite snow, it's just something extra amazing. Stay warm!

Holiday Break!

Between December 22nd and January 3rd, Zofia Photography will be closed as we will be away on a much anticipated vacation involving big snowy mountains, hot tubs, fireplaces, and chair lifts!

Our online shop will remain open for orders, but they will not be processed until January 3rd. Turnaround times will be back to normal that week. If you have an album design to approve, please do so before December 22nd or after the 3rd. As a reminder, albums will not be sent to the lab until after January 3rd, as their holiday deadlines are well passed at this point.

All new wedding inquiries may be done by email and will be answered in a timely manner. Please do inquire so we can at least let you know whether we're available, and we'll be in touch when we return. Just when we thought our 2011 wedding season was over, I get an excited phone call from my friend Beth to say she's getting married! Mark owns the quaint Sconset Market and Beth is the owner of currentVintage - a fantastic wine and vintage clothing boutique on Nantucket. She is someone I've admired and looked up to for a long time for her business sense, her kindness, and her beauty. So, to say it was my pleasure to photograph the wedding ceremony of this entrepreneurial and fashion icon of mine is an understatement.

The couple was so calm and happy on their wedding day, it was a joy to see. They are classy, elegant and loved. Thank you Beth and Mark for rounding up our wedding season with a wedding that warmed our hearts. xo

Deadlines for albums, books, framed prints and canvas gallery wraps have passed. Any album or book submissions will be accepted, but designs will need to be put behind all our holiday orders. Our pro lab will not be processing new orders until after the New Year.

You still have until DECEMBER 10th to order prints, holiday cards and digital files for guaranteed December 20th delivery. Print orders come in boutique packaging, all set for gift giving!

Tyler + Joe Serafin's Longmeadow Country Club Wedding

Tyler and Joe were married last weekend at the Longmeadow Country Club. We don't often go off island for weddings, but Tyler sent me a sweet email after her friends Kelsey and Adam's wedding on Nantucket a couple years back - so I couldn't refuse!
This amazingly photogenic and adorable pair came out to Nantucket this time last year for their engagement session and were such a breeze to photograph - I knew I'd just have a field day with them come wedding time. The country club was decorated with a Christmas theme, and it may have been 2 days post Thanksgiving, but the weather was GORGEOUS. So beautiful. Since Joey plays minor league for the Chicago White Sox they incorporated baseball in their escort "cards". Never seen that one before!

Mark and I had a great time with Tyler and Joey and we wish them all the best!

Paula and Joe managed to stay warm during a chilly and windy weekend here on Nantucket for their wedding at Great Harbor Yacht Club with help from their closest friends, family and a pair of fuzzy black Prada shoes. My sister's best friend of about, oh, 74 years just got married! Mark and I got to hang out with my parents and Ava at the wedding as well, since they were guests! I'm pretty sure Ava needs a new pair of dancing shoes now. Emilé and Brian were married at the Inn at Woodstock Hill on an unexpected, absolutely balmy and beautiful autumn day. Just as my sister, the first bridesmaid, started her walk down the aisle, a huge flock of singing birds flew right overhead. It was a pretty surreal beginning to the ceremony!

Emily and Steve were married at the First Congregational Church with a reception at the Sconset Casino. They have known each other for many years and practically grew up together. Their families even have island homes right next door to one another! This made the wedding very, very sweet, as you could really feel how much their families love them both.

Emily incorporated pretty shabby chic style with DIY and vintage inspired details, much of which she carries at her store - Milly and Grace here on Nantucket. Her mother wore a gorgeous taupe BHLDN dress. Teal and peach were seen throughout the day. The bridesmaids wore white dresses with teal sashes and Betsey Johnson heals. The pops of color were beautifully done.

Caroline + Cushing Donelan's Nantucket Yacht Club Wedding

Caroline and Cush met when they were both working at my favorite Nantucket restaurant, The Pearl. They have since moved all the way across the country to sunny California but came back for their nuptials. They were married at the First Congregational Church with a lively and FUN reception at the Nantucket Yacht Club. They incorporated some sweet personal details to their wedding such as vintage postcards from their travels instead of table numbers, custom bird cake toppers made by Caroline's mom, and wine from Cush's family's vineyard Donelan Wines.

In the most musical of all ceremonies, a surprise flash mob of kids joined the couple at the alter and sang "Oh Happy Day" just as they finished their "I do's"! The band kept the vibe going by playing great songs and having everyone on their feet most of the night.

These two are not only so stinking cute, but also one of the sweetest couples Mark and I have ever photographed. We wish you all the best, Caroline and Cush!!

Judith + James Pagnam's Sankaty Club Wedding on Nantucket

Judith and James had a wedding ceremony at Sankaty Beach Club followed by a reception at the Sankaty Golf Club in 'Sconset on 9/10/11 - probably the biggest wedding date of the year.

They traveled from Beverly Hills to the island, combining their love of Nantucket and James's love of golf! Judith's niece and nephews were a big part of the wedding. Not only was Eva the flower girl, but Nathan and Eli both made beautiful speeches and Eli even played piano and sang a couple songs, including one that he wrote! Everyone was blown away by his young talent.

Judith also collected vintage keys for their escort cards. Many Jewish wedding traditions were incorporated, such as the beautiful floral chuppah at the ceremony. My favorite part of the day was when every one got on the dance floor for Hava Nagila and the Hora. Even the kids got into it. It was so much fun!

Nicole + Scott's Vow Renewal at The Chanticleer.

Nicole and Scott celebrated their 10 year wedding anniversary with a vow renewal by Reverend Ted Andersen at The Chanticleer in 'Sconset. Mark and I were not only the photographers, but also guests, since Nicole is a friend of ours with whom we also work with often. She owns Unique Nantucket Events, a Nantucket wedding planning business. Nicole wore a dress by Melissa Sweet, shoes from Vanessa Noel, and custom hair piece and shoe clips designed by Whitnie Clarke of Bows and Arrows. Her hair was styled by Catherine Kinsella and her makeup was by Yolanda Fernandez Grant.

The intimate outdoor garden ceremony was followed by an amazing dinner inside The Chanticleer. Flower arrangements in birch bark vases by Dawn Kelly of Soiree Floral added a beautiful pop of red color along throughout the long table. This event also marked Nicole's parents 35th year wedding anniversary!

They left no detail unturned with colorful blooms by Flowers on Chestnut and personalized stationary throughout the day. Pink and navy accented the entire event. One very special part of the day was Jordan giving Jarred not one but two rings. One from her and one of his late Cuban grandfather. The band had everyone on their feet and flying around the room. Jordan and Jarred even got up and sang, and his dad banged on the drums for a couple songs!

Sabrina and Aaron, (who just light up my day every time their names come up), were on Nantucket last week and brought ANOTHER hurricane with them. Come on!! But in true fashion, it brought nothing but a bit of wind. Luckily, just like (not a) Hurricane Earl at their wedding last year, (barely a storm) Irene blew by without any fanfare on island. I think these two are our good luck charms. :) Sabrina's parents and dogs are equally adorable. I really enjoy seeing wedding couples come back year after year to enjoy the island!

Katy and James were married during Hurricane Irene this past weekend on Nantucket. The ceremony and reception took place at the very windy White Elephant Hotel. Besides a little good luck rain in the morning, they actually managed clear skies. Unfortunately the strong gusts kept us indoors for the most part. As you can see below, the wind was whipping everyone around. We nearly lost Katy in the harbor!

Weather aside, Katy and James kept their cool and a had beautiful, intimate wedding with their closest friends and family. They're enjoying their week on island now (James' first time here!) with amazing fresh fall like breezes and pretty days. We even got a chance to photograph a portrait session with them last night under a gorgeous sunset. All's well that ends well! I'm so happy for this really sweet couple.

Sheri and Andrew came from Los Angeles to be married Saturday on the Zen Deck at The Wauwinet. They chose to see each other prior to the ceremony on the 'Sconset bridge. The bridemaids' dresses, the flower girls' sashes and the blue hydrangeas echoed the beautiful sky and ocean. Mark and I are off on our honeymoon until Friday, July 29th. We're starting tonight by going to see the Theatre Workshop's Book of Liz, followed by a big brunch with friends tomorrow, dinner at one of my favorite restaurants in the world The Pearl tomorrow night, and then we're to Martha's Vineyard via Boston.

I will check email from time to time but am planning on taking most of the time completely OFF. We've busted our tails to get caught up this week, so clients are taken care of. If you have an inquiry, feel free to send it, but don't be surprised if you get a response of an iPhone pic from our travels in response. :)

A few days ago, I photographed some casual portraits of my friend Dawn Kelly at Beverly Hall's lush Hither Creek gardens. My assistant, Whitnie tagged along to help with locations and light, and the occasional furniture move...

Dawn owns the fabulous Soiree Floral here on Nantucket. She arranges flowers for many of my weddings, and I highly recommend her. HERE are a bunch of weddings we have had together recently.

She created a colorful arrangement of bouquets and centerpieces for my own wedding. Dawn and her team do such a beautiful, creative job. I love her work and am always excited to pair up with her.

The terribly cute and ridiculously photogenic, Nicole and Pete, are getting married next summer afar. They were out on Nantucket this week for their Engagement Session and lucked out with some fabulous weather. I first met them, as well as my assistant Brian, at Julie and Will's wedding almost exactly 2 years ago. Having Brian along as my human, voice activated light stand was awesome. We hit up various locations and rushed to catch the sunset and moonrise in Dionis. It was well worth it!

Sheri and Andrew are getting married here next month at the Wauwinet. Unfortunately, they didn't bring L.A. weather with them from California for their engagement session! Nantucket lived up to it's nickname the Grey Lady as fog rolled in really quickly. We opted for a quick mini session downtown and made lemonade. These two needed no direction as they naturally fell into each other for every shot. They were full of love and emotion, and I ate it up.

What to Wear to a Nantucket Portrait Session

My #1 most FAQ when it comes to portrait sessions isn't "where?" it's "what should we wear?". I don't normally like to make people dress in ways that don't represent themselves, but if you're a lawyer in NYC by day, surely you're not going to wear a suit to the beach on Nantucket, right? My assistant Whitnie and I put these mood boards together from some of our favorite beachy, summery, Nantucket looks by JCrew, Tommy Hilfiger, Shop Bop and more.

We love color, textures, mix-match, accessories, and a fun twist on the traditional prepster. Hopefully this will inspire those of you that are having a hard time getting past simple khakis and polos.

Congrats to Luci and Joe who were married Sunday at Sankaty! These two, who now reside in DC, spent a lot of time on the island with their families growing up, met at The Chicken Box, and were engaged on a beach here.... so naturally a Nantucket wedding was inevitable! They had a fun, lighthearted, dance-a-thon of an event with lots of personal touches. The view from the Golf Club, of the greens and Sankaty Lighthouse is one of my absolute favorites on island. Luci wore the same bridal gown designer from NYC as I did for my wedding, Saja, which looked so pretty on her!

Luci and Joe came in to see me at the studio today, on their honeymoon no less, to personally bring me handwritten thank you note. Super sweet, they really are. :)

Julia and Celyn were married under a tent Saturday at the Wade Cottages in 'Sconset. I'd like to once again thank the weather for at least holding out long enough to not drench everyone! We were able to duck out shortly after the ceremony just long enough for portraits, right before it poured during the reception. Luckily these two thought ahead and their tents saved the day.

Julia's ivory and patterned gown with her colorful bouquet were a beautiful combo, definitely one of my favorites. The couple is really into music and brought in a club DJ from NYC to get everyone dancing (including myself and second photographer Andree!). We had a blast!

Tim and James came up from Missouri to Nantucket for their engagement session. They had a specific image in mind for their Save the Dates, which I'll wait to share until after that's designed. My friends Laura and Luke have these two look-a-like boys named Cosmo and Nico. I've photographed both boys since they were itty bitty, and I love watching them grow into best friends. They are SO much alike, it's adorable.

A couple nights ago, we went out to Brant Point for their portraits. I photographed Cosmo, at about the same age that Nico is now, 3 years ago at the Lighthouse. Now they'll have a photo of Nico in the same spot to match! I love how pretty the rosa rugosas, or beach roses, look right now, especially at sunset. Soooo pretty.

We did it! Mark and I got married a couple weeks ago and everything was so perfect. Our goal was to throw a fun party, with no stuffiness, no slow songs, combining our Polish and English heritage. Since most of us stayed up til about 4am, I think we did a pretty good job. :)

A couple things I will now always recommend to my couples :
- Wait until the ceremony to see each other, it's so special and worth it.
- Step away from the madness to take it all in, as much as you can.
- DETAILS! Make it your own. Use your family traditions, the places you come from, and the things you love in creating a personal feel on your wedding day.
- Hire vendors that you trust to do the right thing.
- Always hire a planner.
- Have fun! It's supposed to be one of the best days of your life. Stop stressing the small stuff!

My sister's best friend, Emilé, is marrying Brian at the Woodstock Inn in Connecticut this fall. I photographed her sister's wedding in Providence just last summer before they were engaged and now it's their turn!

We've seen warmer May days on Nantucket, so instead of dragging them shaking to the beach for too long, we went on a walk through 'Sconset to hide a bit from the wind. We made it just before all the cherry trees lost their blossoms to the breeze!

Mark and I are getting married Saturday at Westmoor Farm here on Nantucket! Preemptively throwing out a big THANK YOU to all my couples/families for being so awesome this week before my own wedding, and not needing anything last minute. Your patience is amazing and is super appreciated!! xoxo

Miss Neely is a year old and GORGEOUS! This morning we went out to Lily Pond for her one year portraits. She's standing on her own and almost walking, and has the prettiest blue eyes EVER.

My assistant Whitnie, who owns Bows and Arrows, made me a daffodil inspired fascinator, that Ava's already stolen as her own. The Festival is what I look forward to every spring, to welcome in the season. All those smiling faces, colors, and dressed up pets, bring out the happiness and start us all off on the right foot!

We've moved! Well, that's actually old news... we've been in this new location for a few months now. Zofia Photography and Unique Nantucket are now at 28 Centre St in downtown Nantucket. We have a fantastic location right between Sweet Inspirations and the Dane Gallery, just a stone's throw from Centre St Bistro and Nantucket Gourmet.... YES we are surrounded by yummy temptations. ;)

The new space is bright, with a meeting space and an office big enough for Nicole, myself and our crews. Check out the custom table my brother built just for us - gorgeous, right?!

In our old space on Main St is now a brand new maternity and baby store called Babies and Bellies Boutique. Be sure to check them out!

Our new space is by appointment only, so give us a buzz if you're around and stop by to say hi!

• Katy + Carlos's Nantucket Wedding at St Paul's and The White Elephant.

Nantucket locals, Katy and Carlos, were married last weekend at St Paul's Church with a reception at the White Elephant Hotel. What a way to start my wedding season - PERFECT weather, an all-smiles couple, lots of familiar faces and an easy carefree day!

Since Katy and Carlos allowed for time alone with me before the cocktail hour, we were able to take advantage of the spring air and take a walk downtown as well as stopping at a couple spots for casual portraits. Their love and happiness really showed through.

The reception decor was kept simple with bright pinks and greens. The escort table had green apple placesettings - appropriately so since Katy's a teacher.

When we first met, they told me they had no good photos of themselves together, in their 5 year relationship! That sounded like Chinese to me... I'm pretty sure they're all set now. ;)

Ah, winter on Nantucket. Nothing like it. While the rest of the country gets snow, we get wind and rain - maybe a dusting that melts the next day. On the one hand, SWEET! no shoveling, no plows. On the other hand, it's kind of Snoozeville for those like me who actually really enjoy winter sports. BUT that's not to say it isn't pretty here when it DOES snow - it's beautiful.

I get asked all the time about how I spend my winters. I think people assume wedding photographers take the second half of the year off, but nope... this is the best time of year for couples to wrap up their wedding album orders. On top of my past wedding clients, I am meeting with 2012 couples, planning out my 2011 wedding season which is nearly fully booked, I am designing websites, I just moved into a new office (more on that soon!!), and I'm planning my own wedding which is a mere 2 months away, ah!! I'm also working on more workshops and model shoots with ShootStyle. Busy busy busy.

But every girl needs a break, so naturally, when February vacation came along, Mark, Ava and I had to head up to snowier pastures to make best use of this time of year. We went to Killington, Vermont, where I lived as a self-proclaimed snowboard bum for many years in my younger days. First stop was Liquid Art, a new coffeeshop/bar/gallery owned by my friends Beth and Jimi, of Costa Rican wedding fame. Soooo good to see them!!

We hit the slopes the next morning. Mark, the poor, deprived guy, has (barely) never snowboarded before, so he and Ava took first timer lessons. They did awesome! Ava also skied and went tubing, and went down some mountain roller coaster thing a hundred times, that sounds completely fun, though I had to miss it! (She's quite the snowbunny, momma's proud.) But I got to enjoy my time snowshoeing with Mark and my friends Heather and Brandon who I don't get to see nearly enough.

In the true spirit of practicing what I preach, I left the big guns at home and shot some quick ones with my iPhone instead. Just for posterity, because leaving your camera at home should NOT mean you don't take photographs, no no no, that's where the regrets start! I always take a photo or two, even if it is of glass eyeballs on a Cheshire cat in an antique store on the Cape, because how else will I embed that to memory forever?

Ok, next post is all back to business and pretty wedding photos, promise. ;)

Mary and Adam's wedding at Great Harbor Yacht Club was a full on party complete with a special guest signer! I had a hard time trying not to dance.

Joanna and Tim - full of laughs and smiles! Their small surprise wedding in 'Sconset at the Chapel and Chanticleer was the most carefree event I've ever had the pleasure to witness.

Sammy and Pete's intimate wedding at the White Elephant was nothing but fun fun fun. The play during their reception had me laughing out loud!

Colleen and Chris had some of the prettiest details I've seen all season at their harbor side wedding at the White Elephant. Very colorful, just like they are! Her hair do was my absolute favorite.

Sabrina and Aaron's parade was nearly rained on by Hurricane Earl, but their Anthropologie style wedding at Whales Watch and 'Sconset Casino couldn't have been more perfect. Liv and Reid's intimate wedding at a private home in Tom Nevers, was a sweet and pretty family affair. Amazing DIY skills by Liv's mom for the dinner table.

I don't know how we ever survived before Engagement Sessions became popular. There is NO better way to get comfortable in front of the camera on your wedding day, than to do a pre-wedding photo shoot with your photographer. It breaks the ice, it shows you what you look best doing and more importantly - what you don't look hot doing. ;) To my couples who trekked to Nantucket for their Engagement Session this year, thank you for loosening up for me and making my job during your wedding infinitely easier!

I was, let's say, a tad bit busy this summer. Instead of taking on too many new portrait clients, I chose to concentrate on my repeat families and weddings. It's so nice to see kids every few months for their Year in the Life Collections, brides coming back to Nantucket with a baby bump or to show off a new little one, families coming back on island for their yearly vaca, and especially seeing my images on families' holiday cards. Here's a big thank you to all those families that trust me to freeze their moments year after year, those that let me into their homes, those that invite me to the hospital to welcome their babies' births, and especially those that appreciate quality. I love and appreciate every one of you!

I'm about to go on about 74 tangents, bear with me, ok??

2010 was an amazing year from my business. I had a record number of weddings this past season and am going into this next one with more booked than ever. I was again published in some of my favorite magazines and wedding blogs. I finally bit the bullet and brought on a couple interns. Work was good. But, it was not such a hot year for me personally. The world fell from under my feet and nearly swallowed me whole. Luckily, those lemons transpired me to this place where I am now, the happiest I have ever been.

Here I am this past weekend with my wonderful fiancé, Mark. This was taken at 3am outside of a hotel during Mystic Seminars, by my good friend and fellow ShootStyler, Stacey Doyle. See? Happy. :)

Speaking of Mystic Seminars, for you photographers out there that aren't in the know, it's a mega awesome photo convention that takes place every January. Mystic was started by my friend, Walter van Dusen, as a small gathering of local photographers and has blown up to this massive, successful beast with a life of it's own. Speakers from all over the world now come to Mystic, CT to inspire and entertain about 250 attendees over 4 days. Walter basically does this by himself, with help from his wife Angela, and guidance from his best friend Mike Cody, and the occasional female perspective from yours truly. This year was my 5th in attendance, out of 6, and was by far my favorite. As someone who's been a working photographer for nearly 15 years, in full time business for 6 years and thinks she doesn't want anyone clouding her vision, Mystic proved me wrong. Not only did it succeed in inspiring me photographically, better yet, it has changed my business model for the better. Thanks to Angela Carson, I'm answering ALL phone calls. Thanks to JVS, I'm dusting off my Radiopoppers. Thanks to Yervant, I'm posing taller brides correctly. Thanks to Jesh, I'm taking more time getting to know my couples. Thanks to Matt Mendelsohn, I'm committing to personal projects. Thanks to Sergio, I'm carrying a pair of spare underwear. I could go on...

Mark and I had the extreme pleasure and honor of modeling as bride and groom for the amazing Yervant. We'll have better, non at-arms-length iPhone photos from the event soon. ;)

ShootStyle set up a fun photo booth, where photographers came and had maybe a little bit TOO much fun??

And for those unaware of what ShootStyle is, we're a group of 6 professional New England wedding photographers who just love to give back. We post regularly on our blog, with tips of the trade, inspirational and fun info and assignment series. We also host workshops on fundamentals such as lighting receptions and shooting in ugly venues, model shoots and social events.

Just after Christmas, Mark and I took a much need hiatus to NYC. We brought with us our iPhones and film cameras ONLY. No digital. Both being photographers, and mainly shooting for our clients, rather than for ourselves, we've been trying to get out of our comfort zones and shoot for fun with different toys, ermmm, cameras. I covered the importance of this recently on ShootStyle as well.

Can you believe these photos were produced with a PHONE!? Remember when car phones were bigger than a bread box?

So, yay, we're getting married! Our venue is the beautiful Westmoor Farm where I recently photographed Daisy and Johnny's Nantucket Stroll wedding.

Yes, yes, we have a photographer - my friend, the amazing Angelica Glass! In all this planning, I'm in awe of my past bride Tracy who did so much DIY crafts for her wedding. She was just featured on Style Me Pretty yesterday and we just got word that a big magazine wants to pick up the wedding as well!

Daisy and Johnny's wedding ended my 2010 season with that warm, fuzzy feeling. THANKS GUYS!!! Everyone was amazingly sweet and generous, the wedding itself was gorgeous and fun, and the couple was adorable. I am super lucky to be able to do what I really enjoy, be surrounded by smiling people on their happiest day, and provide them with (I know it sounds cheesy but) lasting memories in the form of my photography. Daisy and Johnny were married at Westmoor Farm this Saturday. They had a Christmas theme which was very appropriate considering it was Nantucket Stroll weekend. Lots of white and green details, Christmas lights, a Christmas tree placesetter, reindeer and tree bells, red dresses and shoes. They did it with class!

Westmoor is truly a unique location for a Nantucket wedding. The grounds are amazing and the buildings are just beautiful.

What a fun and gorgeous wedding to end my 2010 season with!

Jordan and Jarred are getting married on Nantucket next September. They came out to the island for Thanksgiving weekend and were lucky enough to finally get a clear and calm day for their mini session today. A pesky Nor'easter threatened to put a damper on Tyler and Joey's engagement session on Saturday. Luckily they made it to Nantucket (albeit on a rocky ferry) and the skies opened up for us! We caught the tail end of some pretty autumn color, fought the wind, and made the best of it. These two are so adorable and sweet, it was just fun and a pleasure meeting them before their November 2011 wedding.

Liz and Mark were married on October 23rd at the Spring Valley Country Club in Sharon. The evening ceremony and reception had a warm plum, brown, pink and green fall theme. Liz and Mark chose to see each other prior to the ceremony, which allowed us to grab some gorgeous light and autumn color for their portraits. He drove up in the vintage Porsche she gifted him with for the day, to see her for the first time. Might sound wrong, but I do love to see a nervous groom, it just shows how excited he is. Congrats to Liz and Mark!

Emily and Pete are two fun loving, free spirited, much loved Nantucket locals. They were married on the Wing's property in Tom Nevers on Friday. The sea and surf theme was used in Emily's bright sashed dress, the cute mermaid and scuba diver cake, and the surf guest sign in board. It was one big party as You Scream I Scream got on stage while Emily and Pete sang a few songs with them. Special guest, Spookie Daly, surprised the couple by coming in for a song. There faces were priceless when they saw him come up! It was a carefree and colorful event, under beautiful skies and gorgeous light, done their way!

Brooke was simply the definition of elegance, class and poise from the moment I met her. She's absolutely beautiful and even more so as a bride. Her dress, by Lea Ann Belter, was one of the most prettiest I've ever seen, (really nice website, by the way...). Between the ceremony and reception, we had a nice chunk of time and perfect weather to stroll around 'Sconset for some casual portraits. Yessi and Keith are two of the sweetest people I've ever met. We've been friends for a couple years and I was thrilled when they announced they were tying the knot. Yessi's family is all in Columbia, so rather than flying 30 people down there, they chose Nantucket to have their ceremony. They live here summers and spend winters in Vail. Ahhhh, the good life! Here's hoping they fly me down to their Columbian reception. ;)

Yessi did the decorating herself and the kind staff at 21 Federal came over to the rented cottage at Fishermans Beach to feed us all insanely amazing hor d'oeuvres. We're talking toro tartar, pork belly tacos, ridiculous chocolate raspberry cakes, and foie gras for dessert. Yup. You heard right. Yummmmmm.

This post is flower girl heavy for good reason, they were crazy cute PLUS Virginia and Lilly are my neighbors and 2 of my favorite little girls in the world! Of course I have to mention the perfect weather. We really have it tough out here, don't we....?

My friend Kate Bartleman is a Nantucket native. She is 29 years old has recently become really ill. She's on a long waitlist for a liver transplant. I have photographed Kate, her husband Billy, and her family since she was pregnant with Madison. Maddie is only 2 years old and needs her mommy to be well.

Tracy and Jason were married Saturday at St Paul's Church with their reception following at Great Harbor Yacht Club. We've had amazing weather here on Nantucket this late summer, and this weekend certainly did not disappoint. It was simply gorgeous.

Their cocktail hour on the lawn of the yacht club had lawn games, and the photo booth with its props was a huge hit during the reception. These folks were not afraid to play nor dress up. Tracy, going with a fun vintage theme, handmade all of the floral place cards, invites, programs, menus, cake topper and favors, while Jason's mother made the welcome bags, fabric flowers for the pews, and baked the cake! How's THAT for DIY!?

Liv and Reid's intimate nuptials took place Friday at Heidi-Ho in Tom Nevers amongst 8 of there closest. It was a beautiful spot to get married and the perfect day. Liv looked simply fresh and carefree in her JCrew dress and shawl that was passed down from her grandmother. Flowers on Chestnut created the bouquets and Liv's mother put together the organic style dinner table, I was quite impressed! Dinner was catered by The Summer House. When Nicole at Unique Nantucket called me just days before Sabrina and Aaron's wedding, asking me to fill in because their photographer was stuck off island due to the impending hurricane, I have to admit I almost said no. After all, I'm right smack dab in the middle of the busiest wedding season I've ever had. But something told me to do it, and I'm soooo glad I did! Nicole did a great job pulling together her island resources to make it all go smoothly on what could have been a very disasterous day.

The Storm That Wasn't, aka Hurricane Earl, ended up being just a nice little tease, luckily. Saturday turned out to be absolutely beautiful despite the crazy wind (what else is new?), and they even got to keep their outdoor ceremony over looking the ocean in Tom Nevers. My favorite part of the day were what Sabrina asked for as "pretty ugly" portraits, in a non traditional Nantucket sort of way. My cup 'o tea! The reception at the 'Sconset Casino was not only colorful and lavish, but also really fun. What's better than a dancing crowd?!

All in all, a fantastic wedding, a very awesome couple, and a great event. Needless to say, I could narrow down my favorite images to just a few, I had to go nuts. ;)

Colleen and Christopher threw a very pretty and intimate wedding at The White Elephant Hotel on Saturday. I really loved how Darya styled Colleen's super romantic side do. She looked a.mazing! The burst of pinks in the flowers were a nice bright addition, thanks to Dawn at Soiree Floral. After the harbor side ceremony, we went around to a couple sweet spots for casual portraits before heading back to their dinner reception. Having time to take the couple away, even just to one other location, adds some nice variety to the day's photos. We took full advantage since the weather was completely gorgeous and the light just glowed!

• Surprise! Joanna + Tim's Nantucket Wedding.

Joanna came to me a few months ago with this brilliant idea, a surprise destination wedding! To say I was excited for her is an understatement. I'm so happy for her and Tim, that they were able to come to Nantucket and share this intimate day with their nearest and dearest. They did the nearly impossible, planned a Saturday wedding in August short term and got all the vendors and venues they wanted! Two of my friends were at Darya Salon when Joanna was getting dolled up and said she was positively glowing with excitement. Could you blame her?!

The couple stayed at the sweet Union Street Inn, were married at The Sconset Chapel and had dinner following at The Chanticleer. Joanna wore a custom gown by Joan Gilbert Bride in San Francisco, made to measure in France! Dawn Kelly at Soiree Floral did a beautiful job with the flowers. Pam Goddard (508-221-6184) made the cute cakes that "Silly Tim" dug into with the kids immediately ;). Joanna had a very special belt made for her groom, a personalized belt by Smathers and Branson. Another nice touch was the blueberry place settings since Joanna's family owns a farm in New Hampshire. I just adored this small wedding!

Since only 11 of their closest came to the Nantucket wedding, I may have gone a little nuts in this blog post, but I wanted to make sure all the other people in their lives really got to see what it was like. Brace yourself!

Luci and Joe are so stinkin' adorable and completely in love with each other. I just had a big smile on my face the whole session in 'Sconset and Madaket. For some reason, the fact that they randomly met at The Box just makes me extra happy for them. You just never know where you're going to find that perfect match. :) They were able to escape the DC heat last week and trek to Nantucket for some calmer temps and beach days. I'm soooo looking forward to their wedding next year at Sankaty!

We followed it with a boat ride with their families out to Brant Point and then cruised around the island for portraits. Mary and Adam threw a really fun wedding at Great Harbor Yacht Club on Friday. It is a gorgeous spot for ceremonies overlooking Nantucket Harbor. The reception room is nice and big, and decorated really well. I highly recommend it. Honestly, I didn't want to leave. It was one of those receptions where I could dance while shooting, and really, what's better than that?! Everyone was fabulous and so nice, I really enjoyed myself, as I know the whole party did.

• Nantucket Arts Council Shakespeare Festival 2010.

On June 24th, The Nantucket Arts Council presented another successful Shakespeare Festival with a silent auction and The Tempest performed by Seaside Shakespeare. The locals that attend really get into the spirit of Shakespeare. Beverly Hall's Hither Creek Garden is one of my very favorite treasures on Nantucket. I have spent a lot of time there over the last couple years and it's always breathtaking, especially the sunset views. Not to mention that she's also one of my favorite people. This was a special one, as Beverly will be taking a break from hosting the event next year.
